SiteGround Wordpress Hosting Review

By Sunny Golovine

Updated August 18, 2020

In the world of web hosting, there are two types of companies. There are those companies that are "business" focused, and those that are "technically" focused.

Companies that are focused on "business" are the ones with the flashiest ads and websites but when you actually get down to the spec sheet you'll be sorely disappointed.

Then there are companies like SiteGround that are "technically" focused. These companies won't have the best looking website and you won't see their ads on TV but they offer a level of service that is a cut above the "business" focused companies.

And this fact is probably most true when we are talking about Wordpress hosting at SiteGround. SiteGround offers some of the most compelling features to host your Wordpress site and I think you will be pleasantly surprised by what they have to offer. In this review I will cover SiteGround's pricing and features on their Wordpress hosting plans. I will break down not only the advertised sale prices but also checkout prices with all the up-sells and gotchas if I find any. Then I will cover the features you get in each plan for the money you spend and will tell you if I think SiteGround is a company worth your Business.

36 Months$27.99$1,007.64$39.99$1,439.64

As for the best deal here, it depends on which tier you get but typically the most affordable strategy is to go with the 12 month plan. You will save the most on sign up and then for renewal, you can pick 12, 24 or 36 as all give you the same price. I would avoid the 1 month plan unless all you are doing is evaluating the service.

SiteGround Wordpress Hosting Features

SiteGround's hosting plans can cost quite a bit depending on what tier you get. But what do you get for your money, in this section I will cover the features offered on these tiers and tell you if it's worth the money.

To start, with all tiers you get a one click Wordpress setup, SiteGround will manage your sites updates and security for you and you also get access to the SiteGround Optimizer Plugin which lets you do things like cache you pages, host your images off a CDN and much more.

StartUp

The StartUp tier is the base tier of Wordpress hosting at SiteGround. At the base tier you get 1 website, 10GB of space, unlimited bandwidth, unlimited email address and a CDN through Cloudflare. This is a great place to start and gives you all the things you need to host a successful Wordpress site.

GrowBig

The GrowBig tier is the mid tier of Wordpress hosting at SiteGround. At this tier you get everything from the StartUp tier and unlimited websites, 20GB of space, on demand backups, dynamic caching and the ability to add collaborators. This tier is great if you need more storage, more sites or work with others on a site and need to have the ability to collaborate.

GoGeek

The GoGeek tier the top tier of Wordpress hosting at SiteGround and is aimed at agencies and businesses. This tier gives you 40GB of space as well as Advanced Priority Support, the ability to use Git to backup and deploy your site, white label clients and the highest tier of resources. While I would not recommend this to someone who just needs a single site or is just starting out, I think this tier is perfect for freelancers, agencies and others who create websites for clients.

Bottom Line

SiteGround offers a very solid Wordpress product. While their site and ads may not be as flashy as their competitors, the hosting they offer is of the higher quality and you get a ton for you money. If you are just starting out with Wordpress I suggest going with their StartUp plan. For those with larger sites I would suggest the GrowBig plan and if you run an agency or do freelance work for client, the GoGeek plan is the place you want to be as they offer the right level of support if you are doing this for a living.

As for the best deal, SiteGround doesn't give any term discounts after the first year, with the only discount being that from monthly to annually. Additionally, the 12 month plan is the cheapest and prices don't go down from there. Unless you plan to host the site for more than 12 months on SiteGround and want to lock in lower prices, I suggest going with the 12 month plan as that will save you the most money before and after your renewal.
